Police in Telangana detained Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao and other party members as they attempted to march towards the Assembly demanding the fulfillment of electoral promises. The BJP leaders were stopped by the police at various locations to prevent their planned march to the Assembly. The state BJP had called for a protest to highlight the government’s alleged failure to implement promised guarantees and commitments.
Carrying BJP flags and chanting anti-government slogans, party leaders and workers were halted by the police as they tried to move towards the Assembly. Ramchander Rao, along with others, was taken into custody and escorted to Panjagutta Police Station. Expressing solidarity, some BJP leaders visited the police station where Rao was being held.
Strongly reacting to the detentions, Ramchander Rao criticized the state’s governance, likening it to the 1975 ‘Indiramma Rajyam’ instead of ‘Praja Palana’ (people’s rule). He accused the Congress government of resorting to undemocratic practices to suppress dissent and protests. Rao emphasized that the BJP would not be deterred by such actions and vowed to continue their fight for public issues and accountability.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar condemned the arrest of Ramchander Rao and other BJP workers, labeling it as a political vendetta. He questioned the government’s stance on democratic protests and the delay in fulfilling electoral promises. Kumar demanded the immediate release of the detained BJP members and warned of escalating protests if their demands were not met.
