Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused the Central government of failing to purchase even 30% of the food grains grown by farmers. Despite the Minimum Support Prices set by the Centre, he claimed that the procurement of food grains is insufficient. Reddy emphasized the need to question the Centre about its crop procurement strategies.
The Chief Minister highlighted that while the Telangana government buys all grains from local farmers, logistical challenges, such as a shortage of porters due to the West Bengal elections and extreme heat, are impacting procurement operations. He assured that the government is closely monitoring the procurement process despite these obstacles.
Revanth Reddy mentioned that the government is buying high-quality paddy by offering a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal and procuring maize at MSP rates to support farmers. He also addressed a delegation of CPI leaders who appreciated the decision to raise minimum wages for workers.
In discussions about maize production, the Chief Minister noted the good yield in the state but criticized the Centre for not procuring maize. Despite potential losses, he affirmed the state’s commitment to purchasing maize to assist farmers. Reddy also assured displaced families from the Musi River redevelopment project of local rehabilitation and criticized political exploitation of the issue by certain groups.
Regarding education reforms, Revanth Reddy mentioned ongoing efforts to enhance public education quality, including providing nutritious meals to students and establishing Telangana Public Schools statewide.
