Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called on the Centre to step in and ensure the state receives its rightful 15.9 TMC share of water from the Tungabhadra project. Expressing concern over the current inflow of only five to six TMC, he emphasized the need for coordination among the states involved.
Under the Rajoli Banda Diversion Scheme, water is crucial for irrigating nearly 84,000 acres in Jogulamba Gadwal district. Chief Minister Reddy stressed the importance of strengthening the Tungabhadra Board, overseen by the Central Water Commission, to manage water distribution effectively among Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
In a recent review meeting, Chief Minister Reddy discussed the Tungabhadra project, the RDS, and inter-state water disputes. He highlighted safety concerns at the RDS anicut and the incomplete modernization of the RDS Canal. The meeting prioritized addressing stalled works and desilting issues to enhance water utilization.
Officials will engage in further discussions with the Union Minister for Jal Shakti and the chief ministers of the three states in Hosapete, Karnataka. They aim to resolve the challenges faced at the Tungabhadra dam and enhance water diversion efficiency. Chief Minister Reddy directed officials to submit a representation to the Centre for immediate action based on expert committee recommendations from 2004.
