Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed district Collectors to prioritize the completion of grain procurement and maize purchasing processes statewide. In a recent video conference with Collectors from various districts, the CM emphasized the need for a ‘mission mode’ approach to ensure efficient progress in these operations. He highlighted the importance of addressing any challenges faced during the procurement of grains and maize within their respective districts.
Revanth Reddy, through the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), conveyed a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence by officials. He directed them to oversee the procurement centers personally to guarantee a smooth process for farmers. The CM also stressed the continuous and real-time transportation of procured grain to warehouses, ensuring the availability of necessary resources like gunny bags and laborers.
The Chief Minister further emphasized the accountability of officials, warning against any lapses in fulfilling transport agreements by contractors. He urged the Transport Department Commissioner to provide sufficient vehicles for grain transportation. Revanth Reddy urged district Collectors to take immediate action, utilizing temporary facilities like Rythu Bazaars and function halls for grain storage and movement. He also instructed them to plan for the transfer of grain to permanent warehouses as space becomes available.
In regions facing warehouse shortages, the Chief Minister advised Collectors to make interim arrangements based on immediate needs. He highlighted the importance of proactive measures in districts with high maize production to support farmers throughout the procurement process. Revanth Reddy recommended seeking police assistance if required to ensure uninterrupted procurement. Additionally, he mandated regular reporting to the Chief Secretary on grain procurement and maize purchases.
To prevent losses due to unseasonal rains, the CM directed officials to provide tarpaulins for farmers to protect harvested grain. He proposed appointing a designated official at the Mandal level to relay weather advisories and forecasts to farmers promptly. The video conference, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, several ministers, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, senior officials, and Collectors, focused on streamlining the grain procurement process.
