Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president, Mahesh Kumar Goud, met with senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy in Jagtial on Tuesday to convince him to withdraw his decision to leave the party. Goud emphasized Reddy’s extensive political career and experience, expressing the party’s reluctance to see him depart. Despite Reddy’s dissatisfaction with certain party decisions, Goud urged him to reconsider his resignation.
Efforts have been ongoing to dissuade Jeevan Reddy from resigning, with state minister D. Sridhar Babu also meeting him recently. Reddy, after almost forty years with the Congress, announced his resignation citing interference from ‘defected’ MLAs in party affairs and warning of potential repercussions for the party at the national level. He highlighted the importance of respect in politics and accused Jagtial MLA, M. Sanjay Kumar, of neglecting loyal Congress workers.
In an open letter to Congress members, Jeevan Reddy expressed his struggles within the party, inviting suggestions for the future during a meeting in Jagtial on March 25. His conflict with Sanjay Kumar, one of the ten MLAs who switched to the Congress in 2024, has escalated, particularly over party ticket distribution for municipal elections. Despite his defeat by Kumar in the 2023 elections, Reddy has openly contested the party’s decision to include him.
