The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) uncovered a Rs 4.70 crore fraud involving a WhatsApp Boss impersonation and apprehended two individuals linked to mule accounts and agents. Following a complaint, the TGCSB initiated an investigation into the impersonation of the company’s Managing Director through a fake WhatsApp profile. Charges were filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
During the probe, Dosapati Krishna Sai and Mandavally Shiva Nagaraju were identified and arrested for their involvement in providing bank accounts to cyber fraudsters in exchange for commissions. The accused facilitated the operation of mule accounts, receiving around Rs 4 lakh as shared commission. Further scrutiny revealed that a substantial portion of the defrauded funds was credited to Nagaraju’s account, which was linked to multiple cybercrime complaints in various states.
The accused were presented in court and remanded to judicial custody, with ongoing efforts to locate other suspects and recover the remaining illicit proceeds. The TGCSB director cautioned against blindly trusting WhatsApp profiles displaying familiar names or photos, warning the public to verify any urgent fund transfer requests and avoid relying solely on WhatsApp for financial transactions.
