The Telangana government has established a Cabinet Sub-Committee to oversee the organization of the ‘Southern Kumbh Mela,’ known as the Godavari Pushkaralu. This committee, led by Minister D. Sridhar Babu, will evaluate and make decisions regarding the conduct of Pushkaralu 2027. Comprising nine members, including various ministers and government officials, the panel has been tasked to submit recommendations promptly.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to make advanced preparations for the Godavari Pushkaralu, scheduled to commence on July 23, 2027. In anticipation of a large number of pilgrims, the state government plans to request a special package from the Centre. Emphasizing the need for long-term planning, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of developing temple infrastructure and ensuring adequate facilities for devotees.
To manage the expected influx of pilgrims, the government aims to enhance infrastructure along the Godavari riverbank, focusing on major temples like Basara, Kaleshwaram, Dharmapuri, and Bhadrachalam. Permanent Pushkar ghats will be constructed alongside temple facilities, with priority given to areas with high pilgrim footfall. The government is keen on providing essential amenities such as roads, parking, water supply, and accommodation to accommodate the large crowds.
