The Drugs Control Administration of the Telangana government has sent show-cause notices to 41 shops associated with online pharmacies for rule violations. A special enforcement drive on online pharmacies was conducted by the Drug Control Administration (DCA). DCA Director General Avinash Mohanty stated that out of 166 medical shops inspected across the state, 41 were found in violation of rules and issued show-cause notices.
The inspections, carried out to ensure compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and related rules, revealed irregularities in various aspects. These included issues like the absence of sales bills, failure to maintain prescription drug registers, dispensing medicines without valid prescriptions, and inadequate maintenance of sales and purchase records. The DCA emphasized the importance of strict compliance with statutory requirements for all medical shops, including those operating online.
Strict actions will be taken against the 41 medical shops linked to online pharmacies as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The public has been encouraged to report any concerns related to illegal activities concerning medicines or suspected drug manufacturing activities.
