The Telangana government has increased the upper age limit by 10 years for direct recruitment jobs for a period of one year. This change is reflected in Government Order (G.O.) Number 86 issued by the state government, raising the upper age limit from 34 years to 44 years. Previously, on February 8, 2024, the government had issued G.O. No. 30, which extended the maximum age limit for direct recruitments by two years, in addition to the 10-year increment for a two-year period, setting the upper age limit at 46 years. However, as the G.O. lapsed in February 2026, the upper age limit reverted to 34 years for direct recruitment.
The recent G.O. acknowledges the receipt of numerous representations from unemployed youths requesting relaxation of the upper age limit for direct recruitment. In response, the government has decided to raise the upper age limit by 10 years, from 34 to 44 years, for a duration of one year, excluding Uniform Services. This adjustment aims to enable more unemployed youth to qualify and participate in the recruitment process for various posts to be announced by recruiting agencies in the State. The G.O. was issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao.
Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) leader K. Kavitha has urged the government to implement the 10-year age relaxation announced in 2024 for recruitments through the State Public Service Commission. She specifically called for the cancellation of a notification issued by the Public Service Commission for filling 20 posts of Assistant Scientist in the Pollution Control Board, which had set an age eligibility criterion of 18-34 years. Kavitha warned of launching a protest if the government does not revoke the notification issued on April 20 and implement G.O. 30 from 2024 without any restrictions. She criticized the government for not fulfilling its promise of issuing job notifications after coming to power, despite garnering votes from unemployed individuals in the election manifesto.
