The Telangana High Court has granted bail to Bandi Sai Bageerath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court has imposed conditions for the bail, directing Bageerath to cooperate with the police during the investigation and provide a bond of Rs 1 lakh along with two sureties. The High Court reserved its orders on Monday after hearing arguments from both sides.
A complaint was filed against Bageerath at Pet Basheerabad Police Station of Cyberabad Commissionerate on May 8, accusing him of assaulting a 17-year-old girl. He was arrested on May 16 after the High Court rejected interim protection from arrest. Bageerath had earlier obtained a week’s bail to attend exams and surrendered in compliance with the conditions. The case involves allegations under the POCSO Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The victim’s mother alleged that Bageerath, who was in a relationship with her daughter, harassed her. In response, the accused filed a counter-complaint in Karimnagar, claiming extortion attempts by the girl’s family. Following the victim’s statement, the police invoked relevant sections of the POCSO Act dealing with aggravated penetrative sexual assault. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) also interrogated Bageerath based on evidence collected during the investigation.
