Telangana’s Irrigation Minister, along with Health and Mining Ministers, recently reviewed the safety status of the crucial Singur Dam in Hyderabad. Emphasizing its significance, the ministers highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring its safety as a top priority. They urged officials to adhere to the guidelines set by the National Dam Safety Authority and form a technical committee for the dam’s protection.
The State Dam Safety Review Panel had previously raised concerns about the dam’s structural integrity, warning of potential collapse and breaches in its embankments. With a capacity to supply a substantial amount of drinking water to Hyderabad, urgent repairs are deemed necessary to avert any risks. The engineering officers were tasked with expediting the lining works of the project canals by a specified deadline.
Furthermore, the ministers instructed the Irrigation Department to expedite the preparation of Detailed Project Reports for the Peddareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, aiming to provide irrigation water to a significant agricultural area. They stressed the importance of laying the foundation stone for the scheme by a specific date, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing irrigation facilities in the region.
