The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Telangana phone tapping case has called Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s brother, Kondal Reddy, to testify. Kondal Reddy is required to appear before SIT officials at Jubilee Hills Police Station on Thursday at 11 a.m. Kondal Reddy was one of the individuals whose phones were reportedly tapped during the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) tenure in the state, when Revanth Reddy led the Telangana Congress.
The SIT has also sent notices to two other BRS leaders for interrogation. Former MLAs G. Jaipal Yadav and Chirumurathi Lingaiah have been instructed to appear on Thursday. This marks the second time that the SIT has summoned these two BRS leaders, who had previously met with the SIT in November 2024. They are alleged to have been in contact with Mekala Thirupathanna, a suspended Additional Superintendent of Police and a suspect in the case.
In a related development, BRS MLC K. Naveen Rao’s father, Kondal Rao, and BRS MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao’s son, Sandeep Rao, were summoned by the SIT on Wednesday. However, they did not show up before the SIT. Kondal Rao cited health reasons for his absence and offered to provide his statement at home. Allegedly, the phones of Kondal Rao, Sandeep Rao, and dissidents within the BRS party were also tapped.
MLC Naveen Rao had previously appeared before the SIT on January 4 and was questioned for nearly eight hours. The SIT, which is investigating the phone-tapping case that emerged in March 2024, is set to present its findings on the custodial interrogation of T. Prabhakar Rao, the former SIB chief and the main accused, to the Supreme Court on January 16. The SIT was established by the Telangana government on December 18 and has been actively pursuing the case.
