Telangana police have apprehended three individuals linked to the Subodh Singh gang responsible for a brazen robbery at a jewelry store in Karimnagar town. The Police Commissioner disclosed that 13 suspects have been identified in connection with the incident, with efforts ongoing to locate the remaining culprits.
During the robbery at PMJ jewelry shop on May 3, the assailants resorted to gunfire, resulting in injuries to four staff members. The robbers made away with 161 tolas of gold jewelry and 112-carat diamonds.
The main accused, Subodh Singh, reportedly orchestrated the robbery scheme while incarcerated in Purnea jail, operating from Bihar. The gang, known for its sophisticated and professional approach, has a history of criminal activities across several states including Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand.
This marked the first instance of such a robbery in Telangana, as highlighted by the Police Commissioner who acknowledged the challenges in apprehending members of this notorious gang. Key suspect Raghunath Karmakar, hailing from Asansol, West Bengal, was among those arrested, along with two others, Ravish Kumar and Mehtab Khan, apprehended in Bengal and Bihar respectively.
The investigation unveiled that the accused had meticulously surveyed the shop two months prior to the robbery, scouting various locations before zeroing in on Karimnagar. Following the heist, the robbers fled on motorcycles, seeking refuge in Dharmapuri, and later dispersing through different modes of transport. While five individuals directly participated in the robbery, the police identified eight others who provided logistical support.
Authorities seized cash amounting to Rs 51,000, along with mobile phones, SIM cards, and counterfeit Aadhaar cards from the arrested individuals. The Police Commissioner refrained from disclosing the identities of the fugitives, citing ongoing investigations and emphasizing the pursuit to capture the remaining suspects across multiple states.
Efforts are underway to secure permission from the court to interrogate Subodh Singh in Purnea jail, as confirmed by the Police Commissioner.
