Telangana’s new Director General of Police, C. V. Anand, has called for unified efforts within the police force to eliminate drugs, drawing parallels to the successful eradication of Maoists in the state. Anand emphasized the need for public involvement in combating drug abuse to secure a better future for children. He specifically reviewed the performance of the EAGLE Force, a specialized unit dedicated to tackling drug-related issues.
Anand highlighted the importance of district police officials working closely with the EAGLE Force to achieve a drug-free state. He stressed the necessity of leveraging advanced technology, tracking financial trails, and dismantling international drug syndicates. Noting the rise in drug-related cases and arrests, Anand commended the force’s effectiveness in apprehending both suppliers and masterminds behind drug operations.
The Director General of Police underscored the crackdown on illegal assets acquired through drug trafficking and showcased successful operations against Nigerian drug cartels and hawala networks. Utilizing technology, authorities identified smuggling routes via courier services and exposed money laundering schemes involving foreign transactions. Anand mandated continuous monitoring of social media, the dark web, and cryptocurrency activities to enhance surveillance and apprehend suspects.
Expressing satisfaction with the increased conviction rate, Anand advocated for enhanced awareness programs in educational institutions. He proposed the formation of comprehensive committees in schools and colleges to address a range of issues, including drug abuse, cybercrime, and women’s safety. Anand warned of consequences for institutions failing to report illegal activities detected by law enforcement teams, emphasizing the collective responsibility in combating illicit practices.
