Police in Telangana detained Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the president of Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), for organizing a protest in Boduppal near Hyderabad. The protest aimed to secure land for the families of Telangana martyrs. TRS workers gathered in Boduppal to demand that the Congress government fulfill its commitment to provide land to Telangana activists who sacrificed their lives during the statehood movement.
Tension escalated as police disallowed the protest and dismantled the tents set up by TRS members. Kavitha and her supporters proceeded to Medipally, where they engaged in a religious ceremony at the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) layout. Despite police efforts to disperse the protestors, a confrontation ensued, leading to Kavitha’s physical removal by the police and subsequent detention at the Bollarum police station.
Kavitha criticized the Congress government, stating that they were arrested simply for demanding the implementation of the promise to allocate 250 square yard house sites to each family of Telangana martyrs. TRS leaders decried the arrests, accusing the police of using excessive force. They highlighted unfulfilled promises by the Congress, including a monthly pension and job assurances for the families of martyrs, and vowed to continue their advocacy until the government honors its commitments.
