A temporary Dial-112 emergency response call center set up by Telangana Police in Medaram, Mulugu district, managed over 500 emergency calls during the ‘Sammakka Saralamma Jatara’. Operating from January 18 to 31, the facility aimed to ensure swift emergency responses and enhance public safety during Asia’s largest tribal festival.
The Telangana Integrated Command Control Center reported that the temporary call center, with two dispatch desks, operated round-the-clock in four shifts to provide uninterrupted emergency services. All emergency calls related to the Jatara were directed to this dedicated desk for quicker handling and focused coordination.
Last year, the state police introduced a unified emergency number, 112, to aid in contacting the police, Fire Department, ambulance services, disaster relief, and ensure women and child safety. At Medaram, the temporary Dial-112 center efficiently managed over 500 emergency calls, promptly registering each incident and dispatching them to the nearest response vehicle.
Field coordination and communication were effectively handled through VHF wireless systems, facilitating real-time updates between the control unit and ground personnel. The dispatch unit collaborated closely with drone surveillance teams, enhancing situational awareness and aiding in swift decision-making for crowd management and emergency responses.
The successful operation of the temporary Dial-112 unit significantly contributed to upholding public safety and providing immediate assistance to the numerous devotees attending the Medaram Jatara, as stated by the TGICCC director.
