Telangana, facing a 40% rainfall deficit from El Niño’s impact, plans to ask the Central government for help. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy chaired a Cabinet meeting where they decided to seek special teams and financial aid. The state aims to address challenges in agriculture, water supply, and power, with a focus on proactive measures to combat the worsening situation.
The Cabinet emphasized the need for preparedness in various sectors like drinking water, irrigation, and power supply. District Collectors were tasked with ensuring no water shortages and responding promptly to public needs. Additionally, efforts will be made to prioritize water allocation for drinking purposes and promote the cultivation of low-water-intensity crops.
To address the impact on agriculture, the Cabinet directed the preparation of a detailed report by experts. Emergency review meetings in all districts and the formation of a Special Investigation Team for land-related irregularities were also approved. The investigation will cover suspicious transactions related to land records and the functioning of the Dharani portal since its inception in 2020.
