Police in Hyderabad detained Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) leader Kalvakuntla Kavitha and party workers at the Telangana Secretariat during a protest regarding farmer issues. Allegations were made against the state government for negligence in paddy procurement, leading to demands for expedited procurement and bonuses for farmers. Kavitha and supporters, holding placards and chanting slogans, were removed by police to waiting vehicles.
Kavitha was taken to Falaknuma Police Station after the incident. She criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for allegedly neglecting farmers’ distress, pointing out the lack of procurement for crops like paddy, jowar, and red gram. Kavitha emphasized the urgent need for the government to act and support farmers who are suffering due to delayed procurement processes and adverse weather conditions.
The TRS leader urged the government to swiftly purchase crops from farmers and address issues like weight deductions and delayed purchases. She called for the Chief Minister to personally inspect procurement centers and ensure fair treatment for farmers, stressing the importance of every ripened grain being bought to aid the struggling agricultural community.
