The Telugu Film Directors Association awarded filmmaker R. Balki with the prestigious Dasari National Award 2026 for his notable contributions to Indian cinema. Additionally, the association recognized young director Ram Jagadeesh with the Dasari Debut Director Award for his acclaimed film ‘Court’. These awards, named after Dasari Narayana Rao, aim to honor both established and emerging directors, reflecting the innovation and dedication championed by the legendary director.
The awards ceremony coincided with the birth anniversary of Dasari Narayana Rao, a highly influential figure in Indian cinema, also observed as ‘Directors Day’. Directors Day serves as an annual tribute celebrating the creative vision and cultural impact of directors, underscoring their pivotal role in the film industry. The event, attended by prominent personalities from the Indian film fraternity, saw participation from members of the Tamil and Kannada Directors’ Associations, as well as the Cinematographers’ Association.
Filmmaker R. Balki, speaking at the event, expressed gratitude for being part of the commemoration, acknowledging the significance of honoring Dasari Narayana Rao. Actor Mohan Babu, sharing his thoughts, reminisced about his close bond with Dasari Narayana Rao, describing him as a transformative figure in his life and career. He highlighted the importance of recognizing filmmakers and emphasized Dasari Narayana Rao’s unique impact on Indian cinema. Mohan Babu announced a financial contribution of ₹15 lakh in support of the association, reaffirming his dedication to upholding his mentor’s legacy.
