The situation in Manipur’s Kangpokpi and Noney districts has calmed down following separate militant attacks that resulted in four deaths and four injuries. Security forces are on high alert in the region, with no fresh incidents reported since Wednesday night. Normal life was disrupted by a three-day shutdown called by the Kuki Inpi Manipur after three Baptist Church leaders were killed in Kangpokpi.
Businesses, government offices, and schools remained closed during the shutdown, but essential services like airports and medical facilities continued to operate. The Kuki-Zo community declared a two-day mourning period for the deceased Church leaders. In Kangpokpi, armed men ambushed two vehicles, killing three and injuring four, all from the Kuki community. Another attack in Noney claimed one life, targeting a couple from the Chiru Naga community.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with other officials and community organizations, condemned the violence. Security forces arrested seven militants, including a top leader, from Imphal West and East districts. The arrested individuals belonged to banned outfits like the Kangleipak Communist Party and the United National Liberation Front. Police are conducting extensive operations to combat unlawful activities in the state.
