Tension erupted in Tarana town of Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, following a dispute after ‘namaz’ on Friday. The situation escalated with mobs setting buses on fire, vandalizing shops, and pelting stones. Police intervened to control the unrest, which began with a minor argument over giving way to a bus the previous night.
On Friday, unidentified rioters reportedly torched two buses, leading to further chaos with vandalism and stone-pelting. Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma stated that a case of attempted murder has been filed against six individuals. Police swiftly responded to the scene and managed to restore order, with five of the accused already in custody.
SP Sharma explained that the incident originated from an attack on Sohel Thakur, who suffered serious head injuries. The police have arrested five of the accused, while four others are being questioned. The injured individual’s condition is reported to be stable, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation.
Communal tension had previously flared in Tarana tehsil after an attack on a VHP-Bajrang Dal worker, resulting in damaged buses and heightened police presence. Despite efforts to pacify the situation, protesters demanded strict action against the accused. Police continue to appeal for peace and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify additional suspects.
As tensions persist, senior police officials have been deployed as a precautionary measure. Both sides have been urged to maintain calm, with a significant police presence in the area. The situation remains under close watch, with authorities emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the region.
