Amid tight security in Punjab ahead of Republic Day, the State Special Operations Cell in Amritsar prevented a planned attack on a security facility linked to the banned group Babbar Khalsa International. The arrested operative, Sharanpreet Singh from Tarn Taran, was found in possession of a hand grenade, a Glock pistol, cartridges, and drugs.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Sharanpreet Singh was acting under the instructions of foreign-based BKI operatives known for instigating disruptive activities in Punjab. The police are actively pursuing further leads to uncover the full extent of the plot.
Assistant Inspector-General Sukhminder Singh Mann revealed that the suspect was apprehended in an intelligence-driven operation, leading to the recovery of weapons and drugs. Sharanpreet Singh confessed to concealing a hand grenade near a church, indicating his involvement in transporting illegal goods and money for the network.
The probe has unveiled that Sharanpreet Singh’s cousin facilitated his entry into the network, where he was tasked with transporting illicit items and managing funds on their behalf.
