The alleged theft of sealed B.Tech fourth-semester question papers at Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) in Madhya Pradesh resulted in the sudden cancellation of an examination, leaving approximately 200 students stranded. The incident, which involved the disappearance of nine sealed envelopes containing question papers from the University Teaching Department (UTD), prompted protests by students demanding answers from the university administration.
In response to the situation, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Alok Sharma issued a show-cause notice to Controller of Examinations Dr. Archana Tiwari, asking for an explanation within five days. Additionally, an enquiry committee was formed to investigate the matter, and the university’s security wing was instructed to file a police complaint. Dr. Sharma confirmed that an FIR had been lodged, and investigations were underway regarding the theft of the question papers.
Security Officer Dr. Bhupendra Singh filed a complaint stating that unidentified individuals stole the sealed envelopes from the UTD building. The police registered an FIR against unknown suspects under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Initial findings indicated security lapses, including a locked main entrance but an open cupboard where the papers were stored, along with a broken bathroom window suspected to be an entry point.
University officials disclosed that no CCTV cameras were present inside the strongroom housing the examination papers. RGPV, established in 1998 as the technical education affiliating university in Madhya Pradesh, oversees numerous engineering, pharmacy, architecture, and management colleges. The incident has raised concerns about the security of confidential examination materials at the institution.
The university plans to reschedule the postponed examination after completing the investigation and ensuring alternative arrangements. Meanwhile, the police investigation into the theft continues, with the hope of resolving the situation promptly.
