A third-year BTech student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, identified as Ritesh Raj Singh, was discovered deceased on campus in a suspected suicide case. The incident occurred around 2.30 p.m. on Sunday, with initial reports indicating that the student may have fallen from the fifth floor of the academic complex.

Authorities recovered the student’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death remains pending the autopsy report and the conclusion of the investigation. Kamrup Police have initiated a case and are conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, with statements from students and institute officials being gathered as part of the process. Singh, known for his academic excellence, had recently secured an internship with Goldman Sachs, according to sources within the institute.

Expressing sorrow over the student’s passing, IIT Guwahati Director Prof. Devendra Jalihal termed the incident a significant loss for the institution. The institute is providing extensive support to the bereaved family during this challenging time. This incident has once again highlighted concerns about student mental health and campus well-being.
