Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan stated that no decision has been made regarding extending support to actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) due to the fractured mandate in Tamil Nadu’s recent Assembly elections. Despite securing 108 seats and becoming the largest party in the 234-member Assembly, TVK fell short of the majority mark of 118, necessitating post-poll alliances for government formation.
The party has approached Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to form the government, requesting two weeks to prove its majority. To reach the halfway mark, TVK needs an additional 12 seats, prompting speculation on potential support from other parties like Congress, DMK, AIADMK-led alliance, PMK, and Left allies. However, formal discussions for alliances have not commenced yet.
Various political leaders have indicated that decisions on support will follow internal consultations. The Communist parties, CPI-M and CPI, plan to hold discussions before taking a collective stance. Thirumavalavan mentioned that VCK will decide on supporting TVK in consultation with allies and Communist parties, emphasizing the need for broader consultations to counter the AIADMK-BJP combine’s communal politics in the state.
