Three individuals lost their lives, and 19 passengers sustained injuries in a tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck near the Lamtara Overbridge in Katni district, Madhya Pradesh. The collision, which occurred as the bus was en route from Vijayraghavgarh to Katni, resulted in chaos and distress at the accident site and the district hospital. Passengers inside the bus were violently thrown around due to the impact, leading to immediate panic and calls for assistance.
The collision was so severe that it caused the death of three passengers on the spot, with one woman being tragically run over by the truck, resulting in her immediate demise. The injured individuals, numbering 19, were promptly taken to the district hospital for medical attention. Hospital sources have reported that two of the injured passengers are in critical condition and are receiving treatment.
Expressing profound sorrow over the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav described it as heartbreaking and announced that the state government will offer Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Additionally, a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh will be provided to each seriously injured person for their treatment. Collector Ashish Tiwari has assured that comprehensive support is being provided to the victims and their families during this challenging time.
Following the collision, police officials swiftly arrived at the scene, initiating rescue operations and ensuring the necessary measures were taken. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations, while the injured passengers are under medical care. A case has been registered by the police, who have commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the collision. Initial findings suggest potential negligence or high speed as contributing factors, with senior officers overseeing the investigation.
