At least three individuals, including Malik Tariq Wazir, a well-known tribal elder and chief of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe, lost their lives in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in the Rustam Bazaar area of Wana, Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The incident also left four others wounded, as reported by officials and local media.
The explosion occurred close to Gulshan Plaza when a vehicle carrying Tariq was passing through the market, stated District Police Officer Mohammad Tahir Shah Wazir. The blast resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to four more individuals, according to sources cited by Pakistan’s daily Dawn.
Following the explosion, law enforcement officials cordoned off the vicinity and initiated a search operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack. Residents and rescue teams transported the deceased and injured to a hospital for medical treatment and legal procedures, as per Dawn’s coverage.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) recently expressed apprehension over the escalating security situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The HRCP highlighted concerns about enforced disappearances, targeted killings, and militant assaults that were increasingly affecting residents in these regions.
