Three migrant labourers from Maharashtra, along with a two-year-old child, tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Bagalkot district, Karnataka. The victims, identified as Manish Pandey, Halaki Pandey, Lakshmi Chiramadi, and Rekha Bhuke, were on a tractor trolley heading to a sugarcane field for work when the trolley detached from the vehicle and overturned, causing the fatalities.
The accident, which occurred near Katte Kere in Jamakhandi taluk, resulted in the immediate death of all four individuals. They were residents of Gupawadi village in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra, and had come to the Jamakhandi region for seasonal sugarcane cutting work. The bodies were moved to a hospital for post-mortem examination following the tragic incident.
Authorities reported that the impact of the accident was so severe that all four victims died at the scene. A case has been registered by the police, who conducted a preliminary inspection of the accident site. Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the tragic incident that claimed the lives of the migrant labourers and the child.
The recent accident is part of a series of unfortunate events involving migrant workers in Karnataka. In a separate incident on January 31, four migrant workers from Assam were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Muthsandra village of Hoskote taluk. Another incident on February 8 resulted in the death of three migrant workers from Andhra Pradesh, with 15 others sustaining serious injuries in a jeep accident near Srinivaspur, Kolar district.
