Three teenagers tragically drowned while bathing in the Narmada River at Dadda Ghat in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district. The victims, identified as Sohil, Sabir, and Sahil, aged between 16 and 18 years, were residents of the Mujawar locality under the Garha area. They had gone for an outing with friends when the incident occurred.
The teenagers, who were engaged in private jobs, had left their homes earlier in the day. Accompanied by five friends, they arrived at Dadda Ghat on motorcycles around 2 p.m. and entered the river for a bath. Unfortunately, while in the water, the three youths found themselves in deep waters and struggled to stay afloat.
Their friends tried desperately to rescue them but were unable to do so as the teenagers disappeared beneath the surface within moments. The police were alerted when the boys could not be found for a long time, and their clothes were discovered on the riverbank. A search operation was promptly launched by the police, with local divers called in to assist due to the location not being a common bathing spot.
Initially, the frightened friends returned home in a panic. However, one of them later informed family members about the incident, leading relatives and local residents to rush to Dadda Ghat and notify the police. After an extensive search lasting nearly three hours, divers located the bodies entangled in underwater bushes near the ghat. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations at the Government Medical College.
The bereaved families were informed of the tragic incident, and a case of unnatural death was registered by the authorities. Further investigations are ongoing, with the police looking into the circumstances surrounding the youths’ accidental entry into deep water while bathing. Statements from their friends are being recorded as part of the investigation process.
