Three women agriculture workers lost their lives, and 13 others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident in Telangana’s Mancherial district. The incident occurred when a truck collided with a Bolero pick-up truck transporting the workers from Maharashtra. The impact caused the Bolero vehicle to crash into a tree on the national highway near Indaram X Road in Jaipur mandal.
A group of 23 farm workers from Chandrapur in Maharashtra was en route to Karimnagar for paddy seed sowing when the accident happened. Sadly, one woman died on the spot, while two others passed away during treatment at a hospital. The injured individuals have been taken to a government hospital in Mancherial for medical care.
Reportedly, the driver of the Bolero pick-up van had stopped the vehicle, and the truck driver failed to brake in time, leading to the collision. The accident occurred early in the morning, possibly exacerbated by dense fog in the area. Police have initiated an investigation after registering a case.
Local political leaders expressed sorrow over the incident and urged the authorities to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured victims. Agriculture workers from Maharashtra are known to work in the fields of Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and other Telangana districts.
With paddy sowing activities in progress in Karimnagar district, numerous workers from neighboring states are arriving to assist in the fields. The rising paddy production in Telangana has created a high demand for agricultural labor from neighboring states. Notably, the state achieved a record paddy production of approximately 148.3 lakh tonnes during the Kharif 2025 season, attributed to expanded irrigation and cultivation across 67.57 lakh acres, marking the highest paddy yield in the country.
The state government has allocated Rs 23,000 crore for this season’s paddy procurement.
