Three women farmers lost their lives in a tragic road accident near Jigloor Cross in Karnataka’s Gadag district. The victims, identified as Annapurna (56), Sangeetha Hosamani (48), and Mariyambu Hunagund (55), were residents of Shivajipete in Gajendragad and were en route to Rona for groundnut harvesting. The accident occurred when a lorry collided with the passenger vehicle they were traveling in, resulting in the vehicle being severely damaged.
More than 10 individuals were injured in the collision and were promptly taken to the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Hospital for medical attention. Hospital sources have indicated that some of the injured are in critical condition, raising concerns about a potential increase in the death toll. Six laborers have sustained fractures and are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.
Following the incident, the Rona Police conducted an examination at the accident site and filed a case. Superintendent of Police Rohan Jagadish from Gadag also visited the scene to assess the situation, with investigations ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
On a separate note, a previous tragic accident on January 26 resulted in three fatalities and four injuries when a car collided with a truck on National Highway 48 near Nelahaal in Tumakuru district. The victims, who were employees of a private firm in Bengaluru, were returning from a leisure trip to Gokarna, Murudeshwar, and Udupi. Preliminary investigations suggest that the car was speeding and crashed into the truck from behind, causing severe damage to the vehicle and trapping its occupants inside.
