Elaborate security arrangements, including Central Armed Police Forces and CCTV surveillance, have been set up at the Mokokchung District Deputy Commissioner’s office for the Koridang Assembly by-election counting on Monday. The by-election, scheduled to start at 8 a.m., follows the passing of BJP MLA Imkong L. Imchen, with a voter turnout of 82.21% on April 9.
Six candidates, including the late MLA’s son from BJP, are contesting the by-election, with Independent candidates also in the race. The counting centre is fully prepared with designated areas for personnel and observers, and strict security measures are in place following past election-related violence incidents.
The Election Commission guidelines will be followed, with EVMs opened in the presence of candidates or their agents before counting begins. Results are expected by Monday afternoon, while the NPP has raised concerns about voter turnout irregularities at a specific polling station, seeking a re-poll.
