Left-handed batsman Tilak Varma is set to represent India A in a warm-up match ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup, as confirmed by the BCCI. The India A team will play warm-up games against USA and Namibia before Varma joins the main squad for the tournament. Ayush Badoni will lead the India A side, with Varma scheduled to participate in one match before transitioning to the senior team.
Varma, aged 23, has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru following lower abdominal surgery in Rajkot. Initially considered for the final two T20Is against New Zealand, Varma was held back to ensure his availability for the World Cup. His selection follows a recent appearance in a simulation match at the CoE.
The India A squad features established players like Riyan Parag, Ravi Bishnoi, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mayank Yadav, alongside promising talents such as Naman Dhir, Ashutosh Sharma, and others. Notably, Mayank Yadav is making a comeback from a back injury that sidelined him during the IPL 2025 season. Riyan Parag has also recovered from a shoulder injury to be part of the squad.
The coaching staff for the warm-up matches includes M Venkatramanna as head coach, Vineet Saxena as batting coach, and Avinash Khandelwal as the fielding coach.
