Top order batters Sam Konstas, Campbell Kellaway, and Kurtis Patterson are set to play in a warm-up match against Bangladesh before the upcoming two-Test series. A 14-player Cricket Australia XI has been selected for a three-day red-ball fixture starting on August 6, a week ahead of the Test series opener in Darwin. The match will take place at Marrara Cricket Ground with both teams agreeing to a 13-a-side contest, which won’t have first-class status.
Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe, along with Konstas and Patterson, brings senior international experience to the squad. Konstas, who featured in Australia’s previous series against West Indies, will be aiming to make an impact alongside Kellaway and Corey Rocchiccioli. Patterson, who had successful Shield seasons, is making a strong case for selection after a period out of the NSW side.
Corey Rocchiccioli, a top spinner in Shield cricket, has been consistent over the past five seasons with 151 wickets at 29.16. Emerging players like Campbell Thompson, Jerrssis Wadia, and Teague Wyllie will also have the opportunity to showcase their talent. The CA XI will be led by former Australian coach Tim Nielsen with Steven Crook as his assistant.
Joel Davies, Doug Warren, and Aryan Sharma are set to enhance their subcontinent experience at a training camp in Chennai. They will be mentored by Australia A coach Tim Paine and Anthony Clark. The group will engage in training and matches, including two-day games on spin-friendly pitches.
