The first Shotgun World Cup of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup series has commenced in Tangier, Morocco. Over 270 athletes from 43 countries, including world and Olympic champions, are participating in the event to compete for five gold medals in Olympic shotgun events.
The competition started with the men’s and women’s skeet shooters taking aim at the first 75 targets of the qualification round on Friday. The following day will see the next 50 targets and the finals, with the Trap Mixed Team event scheduled for April 2, 2026.
The Indian shotgun team, consisting of 12 members, last competed as a full team internationally at the Athens world championships. They have arrived in Morocco after unofficial training sessions at the Tangier Shooting Club ranges and are gearing up for the official pre-event training.
National coach Vikram Chopra expressed the team’s readiness, emphasizing the importance of testing their skills in world-class competition early in the season. The Indian squad includes seasoned pros like Man Singh and Parampal Singh Guron in the men’s skeet category, with Olympian Maheshwari Chauhan leading the women’s skeet team.
In the Trap event, the Indian team boasts Olympians Rajeshwari Kumari, Prithviraj Tondaiman, and Kynan Chenai. They are joined by other talented shooters like Kirti Gupta and Aashima Ahlawat, aiming to secure medals in the competition.
