Top seed Velavan Senthilkumar had a successful start in the USD 15,000 SRFI PSA Challenger Tournament at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club in Mumbai. He comfortably defeated Ayan Vaziralli 11-4, 11-9, 11-6. Meanwhile, Om Semwal, after a spirited performance, narrowly lost to Ziad Ibrahim in a close match.
Semwal, who had previously stunned the third seed, faced Ibrahim in a thrilling encounter. Despite a strong effort, Semwal couldn’t maintain his momentum in the final stages, allowing Ibrahim to secure a hard-fought victory. Shameena Riaz also faced defeat in the women’s quarters against Japan’s Akari Midorikawa.
In earlier matches, Shameena Riaz and Om Semwal caused upsets at the tournament. Shameena defeated top seed Hayley Ward, while Semwal outlasted third seed Diego Gobbi. The tournament witnessed intense matches, with players showcasing their skills and determination on the court.
