Fifteen people, including eight tourists from Tamil Nadu, tragically lost their lives when a tourist boat carrying Indian visitors capsized near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island. The boat, with around 32 Indian tourists on board, including visitors from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala, overturned while cruising close to the island. The incident occurred in the waters south of Phu Quoc, a popular tourist spot in southern Vietnam.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident that led to the boat capsizing during the morning. Following the tragedy, rescue teams, local residents, and emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene. Despite efforts to save lives, 15 individuals were confirmed dead as a result of the capsizing.
Among the deceased was Murugaprabhu, a 44-year-old from Palani in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district, who was on the trip with his colleague Nirmal Kumar. The two were distributors for Lava International’s mobile phone business in Palani and had earned the Vietnam trip as a reward for exceptional business performance. The tragic turn of events has left Murugaprabhu’s hometown in mourning, with his family and friends grieving his loss.
Indian Embassy officials in Vietnam have reached out to Murugaprabhu’s family, assuring them of arrangements to bring his body back to India. They are also providing support to the families of the other Indian victims and collaborating with Vietnamese authorities. The identities of the remaining victims will be disclosed officially once the identification process is completed by local authorities.
