Two individuals lost their lives, and 23 others sustained injuries when a tourist sleeper bus overturned in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area. Passengers alleged that the driver, identified as 26-year-old Pankaj Kumar from Rajasthan’s Alwar, was intoxicated and speeding at the time of the accident.
The bus, registered as RJ-14PE-5065, was a tourist sleeper coach carrying around 30 passengers from Jaipur to Fatehpuri in Delhi. Survivors recounted a chaotic sequence of events leading to the crash, with one passenger mentioning that the driver had consumed alcohol upon entering Delhi and made a sharp turn, causing the bus to overturn.
Prompt response from authorities saw the rescue of several trapped passengers, with 23 injured individuals taken to various hospitals. Sadly, two men succumbed to their injuries at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, including Shehbaj Alam, 30, from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. Efforts are ongoing to identify the second victim, aged around 25 to 26 years.
Police are conducting an investigation into the incident, with legal action against the driver pending the completion of the inquiry.
