An Innova car carrying tourists on a pilgrimage in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district crashed into the Alaknanda River, killing four people, including an AIIMS doctor. The incident occurred near Ganga Darshan Hotel in Saknidhar, Devprayag. Three individuals are still missing, while a 12-year-old boy sustained critical injuries.
Rescue teams are actively searching for the missing persons. The deceased have been identified as Dinesh Kumar Mali, his mother Kamala Devi, his niece Jahnavi, and the driver Akhilesh. Ayushman, the critically injured boy, was initially taken to Srinagar Base Hospital before being referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. Guddi Devi and her daughters Narmada and Ashlesha are among those still missing.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was speeding before it veered off the road and plunged into the river. The challenging rescue operation is ongoing due to the strong river currents, deep gorge, and rough terrain. Divers and rescue teams are diligently searching the area for the missing individuals.
Family members shared that Dinesh Kumar Mali, an AIIMS doctor, had recently taken his parents on a pilgrimage. His father, who did not accompany them on the trip, stayed in Haridwar. The tragic accident has left the community in mourning as search efforts continue for the missing individuals.
