Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) stated that a video circulating on social media, suggesting a Toyota Innova Hycross faced problems due to E20 fuel, was actually caused by fuel contamination, not the ethanol-blended fuel. The company confirmed that the vehicle involved was compatible with E20 and had no damage to its components or fuel system. TKM’s technical assessment revealed that the issue stemmed from fuel contamination, leading to the cleaning and refilling of the vehicle with standard E20 fuel.
The service team of TKM cleaned the fuel tank and lines, ensuring the vehicle’s normal functionality before returning it to the customer. Emphasizing that the incident was not linked to E20 fuel usage, TKM highlighted the importance of refueling at authorized fuel stations to prevent fuel contamination that could impact vehicle performance. The company advised customers to seek reliable information from official sources and contact Toyota dealerships for any concerns regarding vehicle performance or fuel compatibility.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) also debunked false claims circulating on social media about the harmful effects of ethanol-blended petrol (E20) on vehicles. MoPNG clarified that E20 does not cause increased pollution or water wastage in crop production for ethanol.
