Police in the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate arrested Sheikh Wasul, the president of INTTUC unit in Durgapur, West Bengal, for alleged intimidation and financial irregularities. Wasul, residing in Rangamati, faced multiple complaints for extorting money under false job promises and creating fear in the area. Authorities took action following complaints of voter influence during the recent state elections.
Several Trinamool Congress leaders have faced arrests under the new state government, including former minister Sujit Bose and ex-deputy commissioner Santanu Sinha Biswas. Central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate have also been involved in the crackdown on alleged wrongdoings.
