A tragic incident in Mohanpura village, Barwani district, has devastated a family after a can of acid spilled on a sleeping mother and her two children. The accident resulted in the death of 24-year-old Pinky, while her children sustained severe burns. The mishap occurred at around 4:00 a.m. when a can of acid, stored for cleaning drip irrigation lines, fell due to rats’ movement in the house.
Pinky’s husband, Vijay Chauhan, who resided in Salkheda village, lived with his family in a house on their agricultural land. The family used drip irrigation for farming, necessitating the periodic use of acid for line cleaning. Despite placing the acid can on a rack for safety, the nocturnal activities of rats led to the tragic incident, as per police reports.
Following the accident, family members rushed the injured to Rajpur Health Centre, where doctors referred them to Barwani District Hospital due to the severity of their burns. Unfortunately, Pinky succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the hospital, while her children, with extensive burns, are receiving treatment in the district hospital’s burn ward. Medical professionals are closely monitoring their condition, currently described as stable but serious.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, with police registering a case. They are also examining whether proper safety measures were followed in storing the acid. The district administration has pledged full support to the grieving family, offering medical assistance to the injured children. Local residents have expressed sorrow over the tragic event, emphasizing the dangers of storing hazardous substances in residential areas.
