A tragic fire at Prasad Hospital in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur has resulted in the loss of six lives, confirmed by District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen. The incident occurred around 3:00 A.M. at the hospital situated under the Brahmpura police station area in Muzaffarpur.
District Magistrate Sen stated that prompt action was taken following the incident, with some patients being referred to Medanta hospital in Patna. Unfortunately, one patient passed away in the late evening at the referral hospital.
In response to the Chief Minister’s directive, families of the five deceased individuals were provided with Rs. 4 lakh ex gratia each on the same day. The post-mortem of the sixth victim was conducted at Patna Medical College and Hospital, with the family also receiving compensation after the body was released.
The remaining patients who were in the ICU during the fire are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals across the state. A five-member committee, led by the Additional District Magistrate, is actively investigating the incident to determine the cause.
Strict actions will be taken against hospitals found to be violating regulations, as emphasized by District Magistrate Sen. The fire, believed to have started in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit due to an electrical short circuit, led to panic among patients, attendants, and staff.
Emergency responders and local residents collaborated to evacuate trapped patients during the chaotic situation caused by the fire. While initial assessments suggest an electrical short circuit as the likely cause, a detailed technical investigation will ascertain the exact reason behind the tragic incident.
