A tragic road accident in Nalanda, Bihar, resulted in the deaths of two students and injuries to three others on Thursday. The incident occurred near Salepur village under the jurisdiction of Chandi Police Station around 1 PM when a speeding SUV carrying five students lost control. The vehicle veered off the road, broke through the railing of a roadside bridge, and plunged nearly 20 feet into a water-filled pit below.
All five occupants of the SUV, aged between 20 and 25, were students on a recreational trip at the time of the accident. Police personnel from Chandi Police Station, along with local residents, initiated a rescue operation upon receiving information. The SHO of the Chandi police station confirmed the accident and stated that the victims were pulled out of the wreckage and taken to a nearby hospital.
The deceased students have been identified as Ashish Kumar and Rahul Kumar. The injured students, namely Utsav Singh, Shashikant, and Dheeraj Kashyap, received initial medical aid and were later referred to Sadar Hospital, Biharsharif, for advanced treatment. Officials mentioned that two of the injured students are in critical condition, while the third is stable.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the SUV was traveling at high speed, and the driver lost control, resulting in the fatal crash. All the victims were students of Chandi Engineering College, with their native homes in Rohtas and Samastipur districts. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent to Biharsharif Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The local community is in shock following the incident, and the police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
