The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a consultation paper on the Regulatory Framework for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Communication. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) requested TRAI to provide recommendations on the regulatory mechanism for V2X. Stakeholders are invited to submit written comments by May 28, 2026, and counter-comments by June 11, 2026.
Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication allows vehicles to interact with other vehicles, infrastructure, pedestrians, and networks. This technology enhances road safety, traffic efficiency, and supports autonomous driving by sharing real-time data. India is experiencing rapid growth in the connected car market, with a 25% year-on-year increase in 2024.
The global connected car market is expanding, with an 8% year-on-year growth. The report forecasts that over half of all cars sold worldwide by 2028 will have embedded 5G connectivity. This advancement will improve V2X communication, data transmission speed, and autonomous driving capabilities.
