A significant initiative named Project HINICHI, led by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in partnership with Churachandpur Police and Segula Technologies, has achieved its first successful harvest in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. Launched in April 2026, the project aims to replace illicit poppy cultivation with sustainable agriculture, benefiting 124 households across 254 acres by cultivating green peas.
This transition to legal livelihoods has provided villagers with essential crop inputs, agricultural training, and market-linkage support, fostering a sense of dignity, stability, and hope for a better future. By offering viable alternatives to narcotics cultivation, the initiative not only ensures economic resilience but also strengthens social bonds within the community.
The success of Project HINICHI highlights the collaboration between law enforcement, local administration, and corporate social responsibility in creating a positive impact. This shift from poppy fields to green peas signifies progress towards a Drug-Free India, empowering communities and advancing the national mission against narcotics. As the project sets an example for other regions, Churachandpur’s farmers see the green pea fields as symbols of resilience and a future free from the shadows of narcotics.
