The Trinamool Congress has accused Indian Secular Front (ISF) activists of assaulting its party workers in the Polerhat area of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. The incident reportedly occurred during a meeting held by the Trinamool Congress in the area on Friday night. Two Trinamool Congress leaders were injured in the attack and were taken to Jirengacha Rural Hospital for treatment.
According to reports, the Trinamool Congress had organized the meeting to bolster its organization ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. Trouble arose when a group of troublemakers barged into the meeting and a confrontation ensued. Allegedly, the attack was carried out by ISF activists using sticks, resulting in the vandalism of Trinamool leader Khairul Islam’s car during the clash.
Following the incident, a significant contingent of Kolkata Police was dispatched to the area upon receiving the news. Saokat Molla, the Canning Purba Assembly constituency MLA and Trinamool observer for Bhangar, promptly arrived at the scene after being informed of the situation. He visited the hospital to meet the injured workers and claimed that his car was also targeted in the attack.
Saokat Molla accused ISF MLA Nawsad Siddiqui of orchestrating the attack and called for a thorough investigation into the matter. In response, Nawsad Siddiqui denied the allegations, stating that his workers were the ones targeted and emphasized the need for an unbiased inquiry into the incident. The situation remains under police scrutiny, with no arrests made yet.
