The Trinamool Congress has accused the ruling BJP of engaging in political vendetta against Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP. An FIR has been reportedly filed against Banerjee for allegedly inciting violence and threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the West Bengal Assembly polls. The complaint leading to this FIR was lodged by Rajiv Sarkar, who denies allegations of involvement in women trafficking.
Reacting to these developments, a Trinamool Congress spokesperson emphasized the importance of equal treatment under the law for all individuals. The spokesperson highlighted the alleged discrepancy in handling complaints, pointing out that while Banerjee is facing accusations of incitement, no similar action has been taken against Amit Shah for his remarks during the pre-poll campaigns.
The Trinamool leader expressed expectations of vindictive actions by the BJP following their victory in the West Bengal elections. Emphasizing the need for impartiality in legal proceedings, the leader stressed that justice should not be selective and biased towards any particular party. The FIR against Banerjee was filed under six sections based on the complaint lodged by Rajiv Sarkar, who raised concerns about the potential consequences of Banerjee’s campaign language if the Trinamool Congress had won the elections.
Allegations of women trafficking have also been made against Rajiv Sarkar, the complainant in this case. Sarkar, described as a social activist, has previously raised issues regarding establishments in the Baguiati area. He maintains that the accusations against him are politically motivated and part of the challenges faced when advocating for societal change.
