In a recent setback for the Trinamool Congress, Rajya Sabha member Prakash Chik Baraik has resigned from the Upper House of Parliament. This marks the third resignation from the Trinamool Congress within a week. Baraik submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on June 11.
The series of resignations began with senior party leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy stepping down from the Rajya Sabha and the primary membership of Trinamool Congress on June 8. Following suit, on June 10, another party member, Sushmita Dev, resigned from both the Upper House and the party, hinting at a potential shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
While Baraik has resigned from the Rajya Sabha, it remains uncertain whether he will also resign from the primary membership of Trinamool Congress. Notably, he has not disclosed the reasons behind his resignation or his future plans regarding the party. Baraik, a close associate of Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, became a Rajya Sabha member in 2023.
The timing of Baraik’s resignation raises concerns about the stability of the Trinamool Congress in both the Assembly and Parliament. This development has sparked speculations about the party’s leadership, particularly regarding Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee’s roles within the party.
