Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee was heckled and assaulted in Sonarpur, West Bengal. Following the incident, he was taken to a private hospital in Kolkata for treatment. Banerjee arrived at the hospital in a wheelchair.
Abhishek Banerjee’s aunt, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, also visited the hospital upon hearing about the attack. She went directly to the emergency unit where Abhishek was undergoing a check-up. Accompanying Mamata were Abhishek’s mother and several other party leaders.
The assault on Abhishek Banerjee occurred when he visited the family of a deceased Trinamool Congress worker. Local residents, particularly women, protested his presence, leading to physical assaults and egg-throwing. To protect himself, Banerjee had to wear a cricket helmet. He later left Sonarpur under police escort amid continued protests.
